South Tyneside Council’s Heritage Assets Documentation – The Local List

For some time the Forum has considered that the Council’s Heritage Assets reference documents, including the “Local List”, were out of date and in need of review.
Following consultation the Forum submitted 12 new nominations to be assessed for suitability by an expert panel of independent judges.
STC have recently advised that 9 of the 12 new nominations put forward by the Forum, have been accepted by the judging panel.

Avant Homes Proposed Cleadon Lane Development

Avant Homes have made further amendments to some of the scheme documents in response to the recent comments submitted by the Forum and South Tyneside Council. The Council published the revised documents on its planning portal in early January 2023.

The Council now proposes to take the proposed scheme to its planning committee on 13th February 2023.

The Forum has provided further comments in response to the latest changes.

Proposed Telecommunications Mast on greenbelt, east of Cleadon Lane Industrial Estate

A planning application has been submitted to South Tyneside Council for a 30 metre high telecommunications mast to be located in the field to the east of Cleadon Lane industrial estate. This is a replacement for the mast currently located within the industrial estate, which will be displaced by the proposed housing development. The proposed location is sited within the green belt and will make the mast much more prominent than the current mast.

        Forum Application for Re-Designation

The Forum has applied to South Tyneside Council so that it can continue to be recognised as a formal body representing residents particularly when dealing with the Local Plan and other planning applications.
          Why?
Neighbourhood forum designations only last for 5 years and East Boldon Forum was initially designated in January 2018 so will cease to be recognised by the council unless the re-designation application is approved.

Nominate your favourite buildings and sites for our ‘Local List’

Nominate your favourite buildings and sites for our ‘Local List’. Closing date: June 15th 2022.

Communities across Gateshead, Newcastle and South Tyneside are invited to nominate locally important sites for a new Local Heritage List. The three councils are working together to update their Local Lists of buildings, structures and places that are recognised as being important heritage assets, even if they don’t meet the criteria for national listing by Historic England. Assets included in a Local List are given special consideration in the planning process.
